Oakwood & Ironwood Cart Access Policy

When David Wieneke, the USGA agronomist, visited in March 2007 -- one of his recommendations was that we eliminate the 90 degree rule to access the fairways.

Concentrated traffic damage is evident on both Ironwood and Oakwood.   Once you have accessed the fairway, we would like to encourage you to drive directly to your ball.  We feel that cart traffic in the fairway and away from the rough will not only speed up pace of play but will also spread out traffic impact over a wider turf surface.  In the winter, it is preferable to drive on the fairway rather than the dormant Bermuda grass in the rough.

When should I leave the cart path to drive on the fairway?

You will notice that we will reduce the roped off areas along the cart path.  Try to enter at a point that is not too worn.  Again, we are trying to reduce the traffic impact over a concentrated area.   If you are leaving the fairway to drive up to the green, try to take a path that does not show a lot of wear.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Jon Whitmyer, Superintendent Oakwood

Kent Carlson, Superintendent Ironwood
